X-Staturday!
X-Statix is my current comics obsession. So, I henceforth name Saturday “X-Staturday!”
First Appearance: X-Force Vol 1 #116 (May, 2001
Purpose: To accomplish any mission as long as the money was right, as well as make money on their own by selling out merchandising rights
History: In the early 21st century, X-Force (eventually called X-Statix) burst on the scene eager to capitalize on the general public’s obsession with celebrities. The team chose to take celebrity and become famous, rather than follow the dream of mutant leader, Professor Charles Xavier.
Combining sensationalism and ultraviolence, X-Force became a top-rated television show and its members instant stars. The near-suicidal nature of their missions was immediately apparent as the bodies of many members were laid to rest on the series’ path to every watercooler in the nation.
Drawn by the incredible Michael Allred
New themes over at the nerdblog. Check it out.
